LUMI window and door maintenance

LUMI Window and Door Maintenance

When you get Lumi doors and windows installed in your home, you can rest assured you have a high-quality and durable product in place. To make the most of any installation, there are a few simple steps you can take to maintain the appearance of your Lumi products.

To ensure trouble-free operation please follow these simple guidelines.

Maintaining Painted Surfaces, GRP and Foiled Frames

Whoever said you need fancy cleaners around composite frames, and such has been telling you lies. Here’s how to clean the frame around our windows:

  • Keeping it simple, painted surfaces, GRP and foiled frames should be cleaned once a month using a soft camel hair brush to remove loose grit and dirt.
  • You then wipe the surface with a soft cloth, using warm water and a mild detergent.
  • Abrasive or chemical cleaning products should not be used on any part of your LUMI product, so please don’t try out any tests and such to avoid the risk of damage.

Stopping Door Keys from leaving marks on composite windows and doors

Tiny scratches and marks around locks aren’t easy to get rid of. Most of the time, you’d be surprised to learn that constant abrasion and/or impact from dangling keys is what causes damage to the paint surface. Think of it much the same way as you would expect with an old car door lock before the days of key fobs.

To protect the finish around Lumi locks, we strongly recommend that your door key is kept separate and attached only to a soft fob.

Maintaining Handles, Letterboxes, Knockers, Hinges, and other Lumi accessories

Again, door accessories typically don’t need any special treatment to stay looking their best. It’s just a case of remembering to do so.

Like most composite door furniture, products from the Lumi range should be wiped with a soft cloth soaked in warm water and a mild detergent once a month, and mechanical parts should be lightly oiled bi-annually.

It’s very important to note that abrasive or chemical cleaning products should not be used on any part of your Lumi product and furniture. This includes metal cleaners such as Brasso or Silvo, which can damage the finish and lustre. If in doubt, get in touch, as we’ve tested all types of cleaners on our products.

Cleaning your multi-point locking system and cylinder

The locking system should be lubricated bi-annually by applying grease to the hooks, deadbolt, face of the latch and the sides of the rollers. The roller slots should be oiled with a general lubricant.

You should also spray silicone or graphite-based lubricant into the door cylinder twice a year to keep it working fluidly. And please never use grease or oil in the door cylinder.
